CUE is You.The Coalition of University Employees (CUE) is the independent, member-run union elected by clerical employees throughout the UC system to represent them in November, 1997. CUE consists entirely of UC clerical employees, the people who keep the University going and make it effective. We bargain collectively with the University and individually when clerical employees are having disputes with their particular employers. CUE encourages participation. Important issues include:

Am I a member?Your paycheck stub shows whether you are paying union dues or fair share fees. If the deduction is described as CUE union dues, you are already a member. If it is described as "agency fee" or "fair share," you are not yet a union member. Fair share fees cover the union's actual costs of representing UC's approximately 17,000 clerical employees in bargaining, grievances, arbitrations and so on. These fees are permitted by legislation (SB 645) signed into law by the Governor in 1999. CUE Union dues are very slightly higher than fair share fees. Union dues are 0.5% of your salary, fair share fees 0.475%. You can calculate your membership dues by clicking here. Members are entitled to all of the benefits and rights of membership:
Most important, UC pays attention to the size of our membership. The more clericals join CUE, the more seriously our proposals will be accepted at the bargaining table. Our union is much stronger with your support and involvement. We hope you join and help us shape our union. Just fill out a membership form available from the web or by phoning our office at 346-3537. |

Which jobs are in the clerical unit? The most common clerical job titles are administrative or (blank) assistants, clerks, and library assistants. Also cashiers, public safety dispatchers, child care teachers and several more titles. Clerical employees at the University of California (UC) chose the Coalition of University Employees (CUE) in a November, 1997 statewide referendum.
