Exhibit 1
The missive was sent by the UCSF Chancellor's office "at the request of the Office of the President." So who are these unbiased Yudof supporters? Both Mary Croughan, chair of the systemwide Academic Council, and Bill Johansen, staff adviser to the regents, praised Yudof for his commitment to what Croughan called a "consultative process" in adapting the proposal to staff and faculty concerns. "Shared governance has been strengthened" at UC, Croughan said. These signatories are beneficiaries of UC's largesse. Without embarassing them by publishing their salaries, the total for six is $672,541. Those figures are from 2008, the latest available. Bill Johansen works at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab, so his salary may be top secret. He's a senior business manager. The gang's highest paid member is Powell ($225,514). We are deeply disappointed that these friends of Yudof do not care about underpaid UC workers struggling to get by. As far as blaming the President of the University, if he's not responsible, who is? And if he's not responsible, why is he paid so much? The letter fails to address the concern that UC's budget consists primarily of non-state funding sources. They claim Yudof consulted with the campus community before "crafting" his furlough plan. So far, his representatives are stonewalling the unions. We encourage you to express your thoughts regarding Yudof's leadership, just like your UC colleagues. Here's what Chris wrote.
